The Orenaug Park Fire Tower was built in 1911 as a lookout for fires in Pomperaug River Valley. There are two trails that take visitors to the tower.

It stands 80 ft high from the base to roof, 260 ft above street level and 520 feet above sea level. Accordingly, when taking route 6 into town look for signs for the Senior Center because following one of the Orenaug Park signs will take you to the wrong entrance. You will turn off route 6 at a light into a lot with a library and a police station.

The hike is a quick and easy one that follows red trail markers. Along the way there are short side trails that lead to lookouts Judson Avenue to the Pomperaug River, School Street, Orenaug Road and Park Road up to Orenaug Park, Pleasant Street to and including 5 Pleasant Street Rent this 1 bed house on Orenaug Park in (yellow blazes), Woodbury.

You will be turning off Route 6 into a parking area near a library, town hall, and police station. Continue to drive up the hill all the way around back. First hole and kiosk will be all the way in back on right. The tower is in Orenaug Park behind the police station. The hike is “700 steps” uphill.
